We Built a Wedding in a Box. Here's What Actually Happened.

There's a moment in every wedding where you can feel it. The room shifts. Everyone leans in. Whatever was planned stops mattering quite so much and something real takes over instead.

We had that moment at The Henley Room last December. And honestly? It's a big part of why Vèla exists.

It started with one question

Marina and Quincy had originally reached out about The Social, one of our Pop-Up Chapel experiences. They were just about ready to book. But Quincy had one ask: his parents really wanted a proper sit-down dinner. Was that possible?

It was exactly the right question at exactly the right time.

We had already been thinking about how to expand beyond The Pop-Up Chapel Co. into something more flexible, more customizable, more built around what couples actually want rather than what packages allow. Marina and Quincy were the perfect first test. So instead of a "no," they got a "let's figure this out."

From that first call to their wedding day: two and a half months.

What we built and how we built it

Here is something most people don't know about how Vèla works: we don't start from scratch every time. We have a library of designs that have already been built, tested, and loved at real weddings. When a new couple comes to us, we start with a design that fits their vision and then we reimagine it for their space, their vibe, their people.

For Marina and Quincy, we started with a design we had already brought to life at another venue.

Same wavy panels. Same colour story. Totally transformed for The Henley Room's warm waterfront light, their 75 guests, and the sit-down dinner their family had hoped for.

The florals were built to match the space and the season. Bold ceremony installations in lavender and blush. Lush floor arrangements spilling over in peach roses, purple hydrangea, orange gerbera daisies, and clematis. Tables layered with crinkle linen runners in dusty rose, iridescent vases in every shape, and individual bud vases that somehow looked effortless and considered all at once.

The details had personality: holographic table numbers in bold orange, candlelight everywhere, and a vintage-style wedding cake in peach and lilac on a purple cake stand, cherry on top. Yes, a cherry. It was perfect.

The part nobody plans for

Here is what you cannot put in a box, and also what made the whole day: the moment the ceremony ended and Marina threw her bouquet in the air while the room erupted. The lift during the first dance while 75 people lost their minds. Grandma on the dance floor. The laughter at the head table that just kept going.

Marina said it best: "Alicia was so understanding and flexible, helping us make the day exactly what we wanted... Our day came together beautifully, from the decor and fresh flowers to the food and, of course, the ceremony itself."

That is the whole thing. That is Vèla.

Why this matters

Two and a half months. A sit-down dinner for 75. A design reimagined for a new space. A couple who wanted their wedding to feel like them and not like a package.

We built this because we kept seeing the same problem: couples who knew exactly what they wanted but had no idea how to pull it together without the stress, the overwhelm, and the price tag that usually comes with full wedding planning.
